This fun and engaging course leads young artists through the creation of a bas-relief (low relief) sculpture, which they will model in oil-based clay. They will be taught how to make a mold of their work with alginate, and they will cast the final pieces in plaster. Three fundamental skills of sculpture will be covered: modeling, mold-making, and casting.

Session 1 - Sunday, May 17, 10am-12pm PST / 1pm-3pm EST Topics covered: clay handling, tool use, relief sculpture principles, initiating and developing sculptures under supervision • 2 hours with Zoom on, cameras pointed to students' work stations • Periodic group chats, but mostly individual working under expert supervision • 1 hour of "homework" (continued work on the pieces) in between sessions 1 and 2 • Optional: Zoom one-on-one consultation can be scheduled during this week
